I changed mine a while back because my original avatar was too blurry to really see. I agree 100% that I get used to avatars and tend to know who posted "at a glance".

..."It's important that your avatar closely resembles your most recent mug shot. That way when your computer is seized by the FBI there is no confusion which posts are offically yours and which ones were planted there by a Trump/Putin conspiracy.";)

Frequent changes of avatar would just confuse and annoy people. However, your avatar is an expression of who you are (or who you want to be). People change, so change your avatar if it no longer speaks for who you are now.
How's that for philosophical?
