Franklin County Sheriff Jim Raymond sent a notice to all deputies telling them to take no law enforcement action on violations pertaining to I-1639. The county commissioners voted to support him.
His position is, "There's a better avenue which is to document it and forward it (to the prosecutor.)". (This is in Pasco, Wa.)
I was told this all happened last fall but just released.
I'm uncertain just how it'll all play out but it's a darn good start.

Franklin County Sheriff will not enforce I-1639; Commissioners pass resolution in support

MYTH: Police want stricter gun laws
TRUTH: Some police chiefs, mostly political appointees, may echo their big city mayors in Democrat controlled cities. But police on the street overwhelmingly support gun rights for citizens without police records. These are just three of many links:

better than relying on west cost gun owners to standup, they are more interested in standing up for transsexuals, dope, socialism and shutting down independent thinkers and free speech

I appreciate the Sheriff taking this position but what I would like to see would be for the Sheriff (especially in the counties with 2A Ords here in Oregon) to protect residents and businesses in the county from State authorities that may try to enforce these unconstitutional laws. It may require a lot of deputizing but that would be a very meaningful move if they announced that they would do that. I am sure they would have no shortage of volunteers that would come forward to assist the Sheriff and his paid deputies.

Edit: I just watched the Alex Jones video and see there is at least one deputy who will protect residents from the State authorities to some degree. Good for him, I hope others will follow his lead.

You can argue, whine, gripe or whatever but there's one important aspect here.. LEO's are standing up & saying kiss off in as far as they can go legally. The mere aspect of our LEO's ignoring 1639 is huge for every gun owner. Some letters of support to them sure wouldn't hurt.

IF you know of any other LEO positions publicly opposing 1639, then PLEASE post a link in this thread. We can use the support.

State authorities? Like state police? Do you know how many of them there are in the whole state and the size of the areas they have to patrol??? They cant even respond to calls right now, how are they gonna enforce this law? They cant. Unless they specifically target (target) shooters and arent met with any resistance......just sayn....

Sorry man, I may have misinterpreted your post wrong....

As I have said before, all they need to do is target a few people to make examples of them and the rest will fall in line. You don't want to be one of the ones they decide to target.

I do agree with that. But I'm gonna keep my mouth shut on a public forum.....

It would likely be a business or FFL they would target. Resources will magically appear if they want to make an example of somebody. One day while traveling a very rural hwy road in southern oregon east of the cascades I witnessed about a dozen state OSP rigs heading the opposite direction including a light armored swat type vehicle. When I arrived at the next small town on that hwy road there were more OSP cars in the town along with some county deputies. It turned out that a resident had shot at the deputies and the OSP had assisted in a overwhelming response. When they want to respond, they can.

I have respect for all LEOs, including the OSP; they do a tough and thankless job. My cousin was OSP before she went to the feds. I had an in-law that was OSP before he died. My brother in his position in Salem interfaces with them and the governors office. I got to know some OSP when I was in the USCG.

But the OSP as an org are very much the governor's lapdogs. When it comes to state law, they will be the enforcers if the governor wants them to be. Large metro police and county sheriffs (like Mult. co.) will also be very glad to follow their lead. So small county sheriffs saying they won't enforce this or that law? Scant comfort.

What my Sheriff (Ozzie Knezovich, Spokane county) has to say on the matter.

I fought against 1639. I spoke against 1639. I have done multiple radio shows denouncing 1639. The people of the state of Washington passed 1639. 1639 is unconstitutional at the State and Federal level. 1639 is being challenged in court. I have offered to join that lawsuit. The attorneys aren't sure how to add me in the lawsuit since Sheriff's have no skin in this one. These other Sheriffs are purely grandstanding when they say they won't enforce 1639 because there is nothing for us to enforce
I have to say, I agree with the bold. 1639 is all handled at the state level and sheriffs saying they won't enforce it in conservative counties seems like a moot point. With that being said, any and all opposition to 1639 is a good thing.

Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich: "1639 is unconstitutional at the State and Federal level"
