It was Fotheringhay Castle, about twenty minutes drive from us.

Mary's son, James, allowed it to become a ruin, and all that remains is a low mound. The staircase was removed to the nearby town of Oundle, where it was used in the building of the Talbot Inn, now the Talbot hotel. Here is a recent photograph...
