Just the same, I prefer to be as far away as possible from snakes and other dangerous reptiles.
For me it would be NOLA. Where the bugs are as big as reptiles and they are everywhere. Went to Drago's in the downtown Hilton. Sitting at the counter watching them cook the oysters I watched multi-legged creatures walk down the plate line........ And they say bugs taste good.....

Understandable. And I prefer to be away from the intense heat, humidity, hurricanes, and mosquitoes. But I kinda miss the alligators.

I'll be honest, the snake situation is one of the concerns I have about Florida. That and humidity, natural disasters, and to some extent, nutter-butters. (With the latter, my theory is many places aren't going to out crazy southern Oregon. But I'm sure it is possible.)

That said, the time I spent over there this year was pretty positive. For that particular journey, I was mainly on the gulf side of the state though.

The invasive pythons really are a concern. They have already drastically reduced the amounts of mammalian wildlife in the Everglades. The humidity can be unbearable. Good air conditioning is not optional.

Gulf side? Did you have a chance to do any fishing? That crystal clear water, being able to see the fish, and it being so easy to catch big fish...glorious!

What have you got against Nutter Butters? :)

Florida's recent Senate Bill 264, which was ratified, was a good reason to be in Florida or even just to have them to kick around. although with no ramifications so far as guns or gun laws are concerned, the Bill come Law attempted to put a stop to foreign-owned land more than just a couple acres. important when you consider that the CCP, by way of WH Group, aka Smithfield Foods, owns 100,000+ acres of farmland on the East Coast, elsewhere.

Some would say the gulf side is the best side. Clearwater and St. Pete have some incredible beaches. Miss The Hurricane Seafood Restaurant right there at St. Pete Beach…. Sigh….

No - but they do seem to concentrate there.
I am really late to this party, but there is a reason for the mythos of "Florida Man", and it has nothing do do with any past-the-bell-curve proclivities of the residents.

The simple fact of the matter is is that Florida is basically the only state that allows their police reports and records to be openly browsed and scrapped for content. There are other states that have open access laws for police reports, but all other narrow down the access to some kind of specific proactive request. Only Florida lets you hook into a passive feed of all reports and dredge it for content.

And dredge it people do. There are several "news" companies whose sole occupation is combing through those police feeds looking for the most weird and outrageous reports to sell to various news aggregations sites for content. In other state those weird and outrageous reports would only come to light if someone with personal, firsthand knowledge of the event posted it to social media or promoted it to some news site. This does happen sometimes, as you will see those "This guy gives 'Florida Man' a run for their money!" stories out there. But in Florida you can find every such report, sort through them for the most "interesting" and then publish a whole damn catalog of events.

Florida is only know as "Florida" because they hang all their dirty laundry out for the world to see. In every other state they at least try to hide it behind a fig leaf.
