Looking for recommendations for an easily acquired 1911. Here's my criteria:

-45 acp
-optics ready
- half rail for light
- bonus if it comes with a threaded barrel as I do not think I have the skills to fit a new barrel properly
-under $1,500

The newer Springfield Armory Operator AOS with a threaded barrel fits the bill perfectly, but i can't find it for sale anywhere and I just don't want to spend the money for an Ed Brown or hunt for a dan wesson discretion. Don't want a tisas because I'm partially a snob.

Since I was a kid I always thought the 1911 was the very definition of pistol. It just looks.....right. And 45 ... manly gun. Recently I handled one for the first time. It felt great in my hand. But... Damn its Huge, and Heavy! That hole in the hammer isn't for a "lanyard" (whatever that is) - it's where you tie the anchor line!

But seriously, good luck with your search. I'd like to have one too.

Im not a fan of slide cutouts but it has everything your looking for and a threaded barrel.

What's the word in tisas these days?
Ive never owned or shot one. Ive only read good reviews on them.

Note, I dont think they are made in the USA.... I think they are made in Turkey if I recall....
My opinion, if you dont already own a 1911 I would hold out for a USA made one like the Springfields. A threaded barrel isnt a dealbreaker for me but you could get one fitted by a local smith for a reasonable cost.

This is pretty much my thought. Im not particularly interested in the Turk mades and I don't really need the threaded barrel at this point.

Then I think the Springfield AOS models will be your easiest bet for both optic ready and pic rail. Springfields are nice 1911s, I own an older one.
Are you looking for a commander or govt size? I suppose if its your first or only 1911 a full size is probably ideal but there is something about the balance and feel of a commander thats worth considering. I cant make up my mind... :p
