Actually, the most logical approach would be to peel off Air Force Space Command as a nucleus to build around--NASA has no business with military work as a "civilian" agency.

That would be a good start. NASA has a great foothold on what is needed. Turning it into the Space Force would be a great beginning (more than a simple "rebadging").

Right... have NASA provide technical and training resources to get 'em on their feet, share launch complexes and training programs... but frankly the people who brought you seventeen counts of Criminally Negligent Homicide between Apollo 1, Challenger and Columbia should not be trusted with a PAPERCLIP TRAY never mind the chance to recklessly squander any more lives.

We should stay on the ground until NASA can get it through their thick, numb skulls that "CREW SAFETY is Mission One."

If youre gonna tell others they arent saying anything helpful, try having some substance yourself? Otherwise you sound like a quack.

What how and why go a long ways vs. Saying "space force and youre dumb if not because korea!"

Best way to knock down an ICBM is space-based interceptors waiting for it to get out of Boost Phase... two words: "Silver Tower."

Besides, a stronger military space presence helps give us technologies that will be helpful when the time comes that we have to face another Chicxulub "Global Killer" event... didn't any of you jokers see Deep Impact or Armaggeddon, or pay attention in Science class when they discussed the K-T boundary and the extinction of the dinosaurs? :p

If we don't have a "platform in the sky" I can guarantee you that the enemy soon will. Having the sea at out command is good, but if the Chinese or North Korea launch a destructive device that can disable our satellites or other communications sites (or ships) we'll be "wide open" to attack.

Hell, the Russkie version of a Shuttle (Buran) was meant as a weapons system first and foremost... whether packing tons of ASATs to knock out our commo and recon sats or to drop RV's on our carriers.

So maybe we will finally get our jet packs? The reality of it though is that in space you won't be able to hear the laser guns go "pew-pew", much to everyone's disappointment.

As far as i knew, we already had orbital icbm defense. And if they disable whats in space, what good does more space stuff do?

Just because we have it doesnt mean they cant.

People talk about emp all the time, that would negate anything up there too potentially....

Mocking the need for advance space warfare technology won't make the problem go away. The Chinese are clearly ahead of us thanks to the Clinton and Obama Administration permitting the Armed Forces to "take a back seat" to entitlement programs. They also sold Top Secret technology to "feather their own nests".

We have a lot of "catching up" to do and Donald Trump is just the man that will do it.
Hold up there....
Our potential enemies have shown that they have "killer satellite" technology.
We do as well.
But we also have air-launched satellite killing missiles.
We can get a lot F15's and F22's airborne with their sat killers.

The big three have had a quasi agreement not to militarize space.
As in orbiting platform launched missiles....that would get ugly real fast.

So there are eyes and nav satellites up there now.
Why not just plan to blind the enemy if that time comes ?
And maybe not blabber about it at the same time ?
Seems like the thing to do.

I hate to break it to you guys, but the @Captain O is right. Obama did a good job at dismantling NASA and China is seriously ramping up space technology. We need military presence in space. Private sectors like SpaceX have bypassed NASA. Capitalism is the future of US commercial space expansion and we can lead the way, especially if we can get the trade deficit with China, under control.
