On a side note, they do/did actually have a few in-house employees with access to a last option shoulder weapon. This as a contingency to prevent little Timmy from becoming hippo biscuits, in the event of a major phubup by handlers ETC.

The Zoo, Expo, OCC, and the Coliseum are all properties of Metro. Metro is the overall management of these properties and the weapons rules apply to them all. While I would prefer to carry at any event of more than 3 people (people I know) Metro is a government entity and sets their own rules.
 
We went to concerts the Oregon Zoo and the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle last summer. There was no security at the gate, but the concert staff was checking purses and coolers for glass bottles at the venue. No wands or patdowns.
 
Saw some Double-Breasted Titty-Wobblers in there.
