I've been using Williams for many years on several Marlin lever actions. The are easy to adjust, they stay in place, and the apertures are easy to change as you grow a little older and want to open it up a little.
 
Rear aperture sights? Yes, yes and more yes. I have an old Redfield target sight on the '03 Springfield I hunt with and Mo's on the m70 I use for long range competition. Not to mention my AR...

The problem is that few if any manufacturers produce a good quality peep sight any more with hunting in mind and old Lyman and Redfield's are getting harder to find.
