I am near the end of the power line, with only the city water pumping station and a rock quarry beyond me. Both run 3-phase power, and the lines run through my front yard. When I built my new shop, I asked PP&L to install 3-phase power. They refused, so I responded "then I will just install my 15 horsepower rotary converter. When the voltage drops each time I start it up, and you get complaints of voltage fluctuations, tell the others using my line that you made me do it." They discovered that they actually could provide me with a 3-phase service!
