Jack O'Connor said he'd be comfortable walking across the entire African Continent with a .30-06 on his shoulder.

Since I was a kid in the 60's and up until the present time, the 30-06 has been the "yardstick" of hunting cartridges. Might be a reason for that.Jack O'Connor said he'd be comfortable walking across the entire African Continent with a .30-06 on his shoulder.
That right there is a nice rifle! One could certainly do worse...View attachment 1880397
My .54 caliber Hawken Rifle.
Hands down my favorite rifle.
The target shown is three shots touching in a rectangle the size of a playing card.
50 yards off hand.
I have taken:
Grouse
Coyote
Antelope
Deer
Elk
And bear with this rifle.
If I have a shot I need to make this is one of my rifles I would choose.

'03 Springfield. My uncle's only big game rifle that he bought at Fred Meyer in the '50's.Awesome pic! Nice buck and nice old Enfield! Good shooting!
Nice! Cool story man I'm glad he got to see it before he passed!'03 Springfield. My uncle's only big game rifle that he bought at Fred Meyer in the '50's.
Hunted with it his whole life. Handed me "The Ol' Springfield", as he called it and said go kill something with it before I die. (Leukemia).
The buck was Montana State Record for that year. Uncle got to see the mount before he passed.
5 acres !!! You think they'll give us that much real estate to hunt on ?!?!"No lead," then "No copper," then only natural rock bullets that match the geology of the 5 acres you are allowed to hunt.

It would have to be my Remington 700 30-06. My dad bought it new the year I was born and handed it down to me when I started hunting. I've primarily hunted deer and elk all my life. The 06 has been retired to my safe for some years now but is still extremely accurate. I have a few other calibers that I hunt now with.
My brother has always been a one gun guy. His first gun was a model 70 chambered in 270. A few years ago he bought a new model 70 featherweight 270. He has taken multiple deer and elk with his 270's all with 130 grain ammo. Shot placement is key!
Ahh c'mon that's the fun of it!Too hard of a question next.......
Yes but would be like picking a favorite child lol but........... if I had to do it and it would be forever would have to pick my Browning hells canyon Mcmillin in 6.5c . I would like to state for the record that I am not the man bun kombucha drinking guy with henna tats ! I like it and it does everything that it needs to do and is not punishing and with the Zeiss V4 it can be dialed out to 800+ if need be .Ahh c'mon that's the fun of it!
