As a follow-up...
Although a sport may cause a ton of injuries, like skateboarding for example, that danger to participants doesn't necessarily translate into death, dismemberment, or disability. But some sports do. Although it didn't come directly from the Insurance Information Institute, following is a list (there are many such lists) of those sports activities thought to be the most perilous to human participants (spoiler alert: hunting still a no-show):

1. Bull Riding (organ trauma, concussion, sometimes death)
2. Base Jumping (43 times deadlier than parachuting from an aircraft)
3. Mountaineering (tumbling on rocks, falling to death, exposure/freezing)
4. Big Wave Surfing (risk of drowning, extremely rapid water pressure impacts)
5. Scuba Diving (pressure hazards to lungs, ears, even blood supply)
6. Racing/Auto-Motocross (smashed body parts, organ trauma, fires)
7. Boxing (concussions, diminished brain function, sometimes death)
8. Snow Skiing/Boarding (organ trauma from hitting solid objects like trees, other terrain hazards)
9. Luge (fractures, organ trauma, sometimes death)
10. Rugby (concussions, brain damage, sometimes paralysis)

This list makes more sense. I've done #1 and #8.
