The lack of logic in lawsuits being filed over gun related deaths is really becoming quite extraordinary in our country.

The family of a woman murdered by a gunman in Douglas County, OR back in 2013 is pursuing a lawsuit against the gun dealers ( website and local FFL ) that sold him the weapon. They are doing this, despite the fact that the mother of the young man, who had a history of suffering from severe mental illness, was only able to get the gun that he used in the murder with the help of a straw purchase by his mother.

The federal government never pressed charges against the mother for breaking the law. The mother has now settled out of court with the family of the murder victim for $400,000, and has agreed to testify on their behalf in their lawsuit against the gun stores that sold the killer his gun.

So here, even though it has been admitted that the mother was a straw buyer for her son, the gun stores are still being held liable for not figuring out that it was a straw purchase.

It is becoming more and more clear to me that people simply want to put gun makers and gun stores out of business.

Here is a news report about this case:

How can you be held liable using a tool for an illegal act? Would Home Depot suffer a lawsuit if a hammer was purchased from their store, Could Ford be sued for by the victim's of an drunk driver? Very slippery slope indeed.
