I'll take a wild guess and suspect they (Seattle) already have the six picked out and 'prepped' for this job.

Not that this will change any of the 'dynamics'but I can't imagine the city would be so stupid as to propose something this potentially dangerous and then just say 'We are taking applications'.

And I noticed she said in the vid 'The police dept will be AWARE of the dispatch. They MAY attend they MAY stage nearby" - which 'reading between the lines' tells me the LEO has already been briefed on this and most likely will be 'backing up' the social worker.

Also at 3:43 in the vid the subtitle says 'The new Dual Dispatch System'.

This a cleverly designed 'farce' that will be publicly touted as 'effective', probably have scripted and acted 'scenarios' designed and videoed to show how 'effective' this is, and six months later it will be forgotten, the employees remanded back to whatever it was they were doing before or put on desk jobs. Seen this before, nothing new.

It would be really cool if that guy used his standing as a lawyer to do useful things for the gun community. Instead he just keeps selling fear bait. What a tool.

Would you rather have police go to every mental call or a team trained to deal with it. Portland already has this. It's called Portland Street Response. If police were called to every incidence of a person screaming on the street they'd never have time for anything else. It frees up the already downsized police force to answer more important 911 calls. If a team feels it is a dangerous situation they can still call police.

… it is just as much that city leadership is foundationally incompetent as it is that they are limp-wristed moral jellyfishes. Although i am not sure i can tell the difference anymore.

Well, you couldn't get me to sally forth as one of those "alternative crisis responders." The city is full of crazy, irrational and drug addled people living on the streets. These are most of the calls they will be responding to. At best, they will be told to **** themselves. After all, without potential for arrest powers, they can be ignored. Also, a quantity of six isn't enough to accomplish anything, and hardly enough to gauge as an experiment.

The problem isn't the police. The problem is a lack of order brought on by creeping permissiveness.

I'm fortunate not to live in Seattle nor King County. But I have to go into town once in a while to the regional VA center or whatever. It's a complete mystery to me who in Seattle keeps voting for the far left city council members. One in fact, for several terms has been an avowed socialist. She faced a recall election and survived with a modest majority. So I assume that the majority of voters in Seattle do not particularly object to thousands of chronic, voluntary homeless people wandering around at all times of the day and night. Building vast, trash-filled crappy "communities." In my mind, one measurement of lack of order is the presence of graffiti. Which in my first 30 plus years of being a Wash. resident, was rarely seen. Yet in the past five or so years, there has been an absolute explosion of it. I guess many of those chronic homeless people don't have anything else to do. Wash DOT does make a feeble effort to paint over some graffiti, but there's really not keeping up with it. And residents and motorists who see it now are so inured to it, that they no longer care. It just is.

As soon as one of the unarmed non Cops gets attacked and badly hurt more lawyers will be in on this. They will of course sue and win. Tax payers up there made their bed, they can enjoy. :s0092:
I'm pretty sure Portland has already done this, and the first Social Worker that served an eviction notice was stabbed in the neck!
There was a thread on here that covered it! The thread ended with a pic of two Portland cops pointing and laughing!
