I'm amazed that there are reasonable responses on a police1 thread. Usually they're pro police to a fault.
Our last, best hope is honest local policing.
I sincerely want to believe that when push comes to shove, they'll follow their conscience even when it conflicts with their orders.
Sure, this is an egregious example - but it's out there, on line, and everybody's looking at it and commenting on it. Maybe videos like this will make a difference.
If you are going to open carry, have a copy of the local/state laws on you for the cops to read.
And I agree, the repeating of second amendment rights violation got old.He should have know the statue for the city
And y'all know they won't get even a slap on the wrist.
Modern municipal police officers are taught, from the very beginning, with rigid entry requirements, that they are special people, above everyone else. They're told they're smarter than us, make much better decisions than us, are much more morally capable than us, tougher than us, etc. They're also told, while being drilled on "officer-safety" tactics daily, that we're NOT for them, that we resent them (self-fullfilling thing, that is), that we'd sooner shoot them in the side-panel then hand them our drivers' license, and that if the S really does ever HTF, they'd better watch out, 'cause we're gonna "turn" on them.
And they really seem to like all of this... like, a LOT.
These people are not gonna shrug off their elitist mindset or lifestyle for you.
WashCo Sheriff's Dept. is not that. Not in my experience. A lot of the people in this Dept. are third-generation cops, and they take immense pride in their jobs and their responsibilities.
And then to encounter a bunch of mouthy upper-middle-class kids who are protesting for the right to smoke weed and get paid for not working? There's a reason for all their training and practice, so they don't give in to the desire to throttle all those dumb punks.
There are already examples of local LEO's resisting Federal officers and their imperial overreach; I have hope that the trend will grow.

It really only takes a few bad interactions to sour the citizenry on cops, but you know who you'll call when you really need help. As a young man I had my share of bad times with cops, most of which I brought on myself. But the older I get, the happier I am to see them. I'm not macho enough to take on a rioting mob or a Crip house across the street - maybe you are.
I'm actually impressed that they can remain as professional as they do, given the lowlife dirtbag sh!theels that they have to rub up against every single work day.
