Pardon me for asking, but:

> Why waste your time telling them anything? Do you really honestly think they care one bit what you think? Obviously they are making money, otherwise they wouldn't price the way they do. If they did care, we wouldn't be having this discussion. So why waste YOUR time telling someone who doesn't care?

Is this still about Ammo or Politicians? It sounds like you're talking more about our representatives than ammo.

If it makes you all warm & fuzzy inside to send an e-mail to business and complain when you have not bought anything from them they look at you not as a missed sale but as a sour grape & I do not blame them one bit...

Oh, one more thing. Are you one of those Jackalopes who flag posts on C/L???

With all the negative publicity they are getting (not just here, everywhere) I wouldn't be surprised to see CTD fold in the next 5 years. MidwayUSA might not be that far behind with their shipping policies.

Just curious about the MidwayUSA shipping policy you are referring to, from my personal experience, of all of the on-line retailers I use, MidwayUSA is actually the only one that ships my orders the fastest, about a week ago, I ordered .30 cal bullets and a case gauge on a Saturday morning and by that afternoon, I received a shipping notice and received my order 4 days later. And that was just normal shipping.

They've always been quick with shipping with me as well.
I stopped shopping there (after many years and many thousands of $$$) after being raked over the coals too many times on shipping prices. Here's a quick example. Rifle case and small range bag:

UPS Ground $34.96 06/13/13
UPS Sure Post (USPS Final Delivery) $44.92 06/14/13
UPS 2nd Day Air $139.13 06/07/13
UPS Next Day Air Saver $182.49 06/06/13
UPS Next Day Air $191.19 06/06/13

Here is a different perspective. Most stores rely on volume in the gun market especially online stores. The problem right now is there is no volume to sell. When you normally sell 10000 boxes of something for X amount and make Y, you can cover all your overhead, plus keep some extra for yourself. The biggest problem with todays market is instead of getting 10000 of an item. You are only getting 500. So in order to cover your overhead and pay yourself some the price must go up.

It is pretty simple economics. The other choice is to lay off employees, and lower overhead so you only need 500 items to cover your bases. But if you were one of the employees being laid off you would not be that happy.

I am not saying $50 for .22 mag is not extreme. But you do not know the other factors or how the firearms industry works.

^^ THIS ^^

Wow, those are definitely steep prices for shipping, I think the reason why I didn't noticed the shipping charges, was for the fact that my orders where pretty light and I have not payed anything over $20 for shipping.

On a side note, I ways take advantage when Cabelas have the $5 shipping promotion and order heavy items then. It saved me money on shipping charges on numerous occasion.

Midway used to offer free shipping coupons once in a while which was nice. I haven't seen those for years though. It's easy to advertise the best prices when you are making up for it in shipping & handling. After I started comparing them to other retailers after S&H was factored in they weren't the best deal anymore. I like the company & the NRA round-up program but wish the shipping prices would come back down to earth. They used to be competitive in that aspect.

Observation...

I dont begrudge any business making a profit. In tough times they still have the overhead to meet and stock to hold onto. Supply and demand has always dictated prices. Those that need what they have are generally willing to pay the price, those that don't are free to not buy the items. I really think it is pretty petty to gripe and complain about something that "lack of preparedness" caused. Free market is what America is all about. It wont change except by forced socialism, communism, marxism. Essentially that sounds like what the whiners are asking for. Its like griping about you neighbor making more income than you. Anyone is free to make as much as they have the drive and work ethic to make or as little as they wish.
For businesses, they have the same right, but their costs don't go down when people buy less or supply is low. Their income has to he there regardless, or they cease to exist. Also if they sell for low profit, they wont be around long either. A gun shop or shooting supply doesn't have groceries, hardware, pharmaceuticals, garden supplies and other things to pull them through tough supply times on ammo. They must make the profit by what they sell in their limited range of goods. If you want to run the little guys out of business, you essentially play into the anti gun groups hands. I would rather pay the price and help keep those little guys around. It serves our needs in the end. Stop falling the socialist line of spread the wealth, because that is exactly what you are doing.

Those that are griping now, are not going to like what the prices would be if we were in an actually SHTF scenario.

They can gripe all they want because in an actual SHTF scenario it would be far worse. If you were even able to find anybody to sell you any ammo or a firearm.

I agree on the lack of preparedness for some, at least those that became complacent and did not learn from the prior shortages.

I do feel for those who decided to finally wake up concerning firearms ownership and could not find any ammo.

Imagine what food and/or fuel might cost in a similar situation.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing.
Ammo will then become the new gold currency if you can find anyone willing to let it go. Food, fuel, and everything else needed will be the same.
