Unfortunately, that's likely quite true. Some sick sense of "personal infamy" to go out in a flame of doing one more grotesque than their "hero". They have destabilized every single important institution from family to church, to schools to the law and even our shared history is now in doubt. They have undermined all the pillars of society. They have thrown off the "oppressor" and the tragic results are there for all to see.

14 elementary school students dead, 1 student in critical condition, 1 teacher dead, 1 adult (teacher?) in critical condition. Shooter also dead but nobody cares about him.

Elementary schools are easy targets nationwide. The one in your neighborhood is probably as easy to walk into as this one in Texas. Pretty difficult to harden a target like this without turning the school experience into a prison experience.
