This morning, Wednesday September 18, 2013, at 1:50 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a robbery at Southeast 159th Avenue and Main Street where the suspect armed with a machete robbed a man of his headphones.
Officers arrived and spoke with the victim, 21-year-old Adam Hampton, who told police that a black Ford Expedition pulled up along side him and the suspect got out of the vehicle, armed with a machete. Hampton told police that the suspect, later identified as 17-year-old Javier Coyt, demanded the victim's headphones which the victim gave to him. The suspect got back into the Expedition and it left the area.
After calling 9-1-1, the vehicle returned and a different male got out, gave the victim back his headphones, and apologized. The vehicle then left the area again but was spotted by police and stopped.
In total there were six people in the Expedition, the suspect Coyt being one of them. All occupants were removed from the vehicle, Coyt was arrested and the machete was recovered.
Coyt was lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home (JDH) on a charge of Robbery in the First Degree.
