I've thought about this quite a bit. They want to pass a "law" and they expect that we will comply because we are law abiders right? So what if we all stand up and shout from the rooftops "WE WILL NOT COMPLY!"?
While speaking with a anti the other day .someone stated only the law abiding will comply which is not the problem. The anti stated but this will keep the law abiding in check and stop them when they have nefarious intent .I pointed out that if they have nefarious intent their not a law abiding citizen. It appear to trigger a melt down .
TRUE STORY

Portland-area clergy led the effort, and on Thursday morning, Pastor W. J. Mark Knutson of Augustana Lutheran Church said the "Lift Every Voice" campaign will instead set its sights on the 2020 ballot.

"Our lightning speed as a team was just too fast for our opponents," Knutson said during a news conference. "They started flopping all over the field with every legal maneuver they could imagine. Oh, they are exhausted by the rightness of our cause. And we are just getting going."

I tell ya, this guy just makes me wanna puke.

I want to see this tool lose his churches tax exempt status, retroactively...

"...just too fast for our opponents,...."

They were so fast they didn't even get one signature. Laughable.

My understanding is that the losers in this process have to pay the legal costs of their opponents. So, do the antis have to pay the good guys (pro-gun groups) legal costs? Does this include filing fees AND attorney fees? Hope we bankrupt them.

I wish I could give this 1000 LIKES! Especially the retroactively. What a Jerk.
(In my best Larry the Cable Guy, Jeff Foxworthy, or Bill Engval voice) "I believe...: making or proposing legislation that makes someone a criminal for something they did or purchased before the law was in effect, should be illegal."

Amen Brother, Amen!

Oregon gun owners may have dodged a bullet. This ruling by Oregon's Supreme Court may very well prevent the measure from making the ballot this year. The court said that not only does the ballot title need to be replaced, but the language of the measure itself needs to be more clear and precise in nature.

This may very well be a fatal blow to IP 43:

NRA Keeps Assault Weapon Ban Off Oregon Ballot

It's over the whole issue has been abandoned by the promoters. Our guns are thankfully safe.

Well yes, it clearly looks like Oregon gun owerns are safe for now, in 2018. However, if you look at that Portland Mercury News article in the 2nd link that I posted, you will see that Ceasefire Oregon is not giving up, and will be back both in 2019 and 2020. Here is what they reported:

Penny Okamoto with Ceasefire Oregon said: Ceasefire Oregon is "moving forward with a bill that would ban high capacity magazines" in the state's 2019 legislative session. The group will also refile the assault weapon ban as an initiative for the the state's 2020 ballot.

So the enemies of gun rights here in Oregon are not going away. They will be back.

I have a little less respect for our Secetary of State, Dennis Richardson after reading this. It was in the same KGW article as Knutson's. Petitioning the AG and OSC are part of the checks and balances with Initiatives, otherwise it would be the wild west with titles. Many voters are swayed by these emotionally charged titles - it is all that they read.

"Whether I agree or not with a particular cause, I strongly believe Oregonians should have the right to petition their government without the deck stacked against them," Richardson, a Republican, said in a press release. He referenced his unsuccessful appeal to the Legislature earlier this year to pass a bill to allow petitioners to begin collecting signatures using the attorney general's ballot title, even if that title is being appealed to the state Supreme Court.

Since when is requiring that a ballot initiative be clear, and not misleading to the public, stacking the deck??

What about the public's right to not be duped by deceitful people?

This is indeed most disappointing to hear from Richardson.

Nothing should be petitioned with an unapproved title, unless the petitioner signatute gatherers are not allowed to talk to the people signing the petition. That way the people signing the petition can only sign it on what they read, and not the activist petitioners emotional statements. If people cannot understand what they are reading they should not sign the petition. And if the petition writers cannot write it in such a way that people understand it, then they would not get enough signatures.

so by Richardson's reasoning, it's OK to obtain sigs with a title and language that may require changes which some would NOT sign.
Talk about deception-----they could disguise the whole intent of the bill and later unwrap a real stinker with previous sigs.
