I'd go under 10. One of the reasons for the 300 is it's subsonic capabilities and those are really maximized with SHORT barrels. 7 inches or less are common. I've got a 5.5 inch piston driven rattler and it's a joy to shoot.
 
Question on the length that you have to put in the Form 1. Is that a definitive lenght that the sbr has to abide by? What if you put on a longer/shorter stock (if not adjustable) down the road in case the one picked wasn't compfortable?

I believe from my reading that you need to keep components to keep it in registered config, but... you can change uppers and stocks and such
