If you are old enough to want to quit smoking, you are probably old enough to need or already take blood pressure medication. The last time that I decided to quit drinking I asked my doctor for something to lessen the stress and "jumpiness" that I knew from experience that I would have. He prescribed me another blood pressure medication, CLONIDINE, which has an un-cited side effect of slightly "soothing" nervousness from withdrawal. It's not exactly a slight buzz or a tranquilizer, but it does take the "edge" off of cravings so that you might better keep it mental, and it helps getting to sleep. It worked very well for me for alcohol withdrawal, and I needed more blood pressure meds anyway. It might help with nicotine cravings? It's worth bringing up to your doctor!.....................elsullo
