Can't go wrong with a P226, so I'd cast a vote for that. As for the M&P, I've got a 9c as my carry gun - it's one of the longest held 9mm I've owned at just over 2 years - like you, I tend to hold them a few months, get bored or disgusted, and move on. The M&P has stayed though. Yes it had a gritty trigger, at first, but after 500+ rounds, it's become a nice trigger. You could always have a trigger job done if that's your only complaint.

I'll 2nd that - when I was picking out my '3rd' nine it came down to a 226 or the CZ. The 226 was gone the day I went in to decide between the two - but I was almost glad because the decision was made for me and the CZ was considerably less - However I WAS 'leaning' toward the CZ from the start but it still would have been a difficult decision if the SIG had still been setting next to the CZ.

This is not the first time I've heard about this handgun. Is it a polymer framed SA/DA?

Yes. I have the Elite Match all steel SA only 10MM and it's been flawless so far, at least 500 rds. It's basically a giant BHP, my prior top pistol of all time. The Witness Match is a better gun

Anyone have any experience with the Sig 2022? I'm starting to lean towards the Sig 229. But am curious about the polymer framed 2022. Reasonably priced, and they are a Sig.

I have two (soon to be three) EAA/Tanfoglio Witness 9mm's. One is a Witness Elite Match and the other two are P-Carry. The P-Carry is just a short-barreled version of the Witness and is a really nice shooter. The Elite Match is one of the best shooters I have owned. The trigger is butter smooth and the whole thing is really well made. I have been able to shoot 3-4" groups at 40' with not much trouble. I'll keep the Elite Match for home protection and target shooting, I'll carry the P-Carry as my concealed EDC. Oh, two of them because his and hers...

I have 2 Sig 238, because they were readily available, then the 938 came out. We have 2 because they are his and hers. I've only held the 938, but if it shoots like the 238 then I'd say that would be a contender. Unless you're also looking at high capacity.

I've been thru several 9mm's from Smith &Wesson, Sig, Beretta, CZ, and I ended up with the H&K UPS full size 9 mm. It is the "best" 9mm I've found for me. Fits my hand, shoots straight, smooth as butter, never a failure. But as my dad always said your "best" whatever may not be worth a damn for someone else, that's why they make Fords and Chevys!

CZ 75 beyond the shadow of a doubt. Most accurate 9mm I've shot.... and most comfortable as well.
Yep I'll agree. I did NOT care for the stock plastic grips on my CZ so I got a set of the Houge finger grip style which I like but they are beginning to feel a little 'thick' to me. I think I'll go back to a standard style but in the rubber material - I think the plastic ones are just a little too 'slick' for my taste.

A couple thoughts:

First, the S&W M&P triggers can be improved greatly with an Apex kit. Seriously, it makes it nice and smooth.

Second, why are you limiting yourself to owning just one 9mm handgun at a time? o_O

I have at least three, plus a bunch of other calibers. It's ok to have more than one. :D

I can't believe it took until my post (#36 in thread) to have someone mention Kahr firearms.

I recently purchased a Kahr CW9. It is less than 1 inch wide, 7+1 single stack. I was going to get an Xds 9mm, but the trigger completely sucked, and I am not a trigger snob.

The Kahr has a much smoother trigger, and was almost $200 less than the XDs. It has been absolutely reliable right out of the box. Oddly enough, it feels better built than the Springer, and I am a Springer fan.

I plan on buying at least one more Kahr in 9mm in the future, either the CM9, or PM9(6+1, or 7+1 with extended mag)

Just another option for the OP

The world is full of Kings and Queens, who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It's Heaven and Hell...........

Heck everybody talks about an informal AR competition shoot but what would REALLY be fun is a 9mm competition - no need to establish categories as we will all be on 'open irons' - I like this idea ! Clays at 25 yards - $1 per clay - 100 rounds maximum - winner take all!
