Here is the littIe bit I have personal knowledge of regarding wages in Washington State/Oregon vs South Carolina.
There is a very large airplane manufacturer where most commercial aircraft are assembled in the Puget Sound vicinity and some parts are manufactured in the Portland area.
The exact same aircraft is made in Everett and Charleston. The exact same jobs are required to create those aircraft and those jobs pay considerably less per hour in South Carolina.
Perhaps the difference in wages is offset by a lower cost of living in the Charleston area, I do not know.
