Had this show up on the neighborhood association Facebook page tonight. I will be sleeping very lightly tonight, as this is maybe 1/4 mile from us..

"PSA for South Eugene:

(Not me, someone in our group) I just wanted to let South Eugene families know that our neighbor, who owns a house right behind our apartments, just let us know that while he was at work about an hour ago, his wife called to tell him that a very large man in a clown suit was trying to break into his back sliding glass door. His wife and 6 year old niece were inside and his niece saw the clown and was laughing, then his wife went to the backdoor and told the clown she had a gun while he was trying to get the door open. He wouldn't stop so she got on the phone with the police and got her gun and told him she would shoot him if he didn't leave and he just kept laughing at her and trying to force the door open. He disappeared just before the police arrived. We are at the corner of Donald and Fox Hollow. There have been quite a few police officers walking and driving around and the man from the house and a few of his friends are also out walking trying to find the guy."

A true PSA is something that is shared by the news media or government. This by no means is a PSA. People who like to spread hoaxes on the Internet often do word their posts like this, in order to try to trick people into believing that the information is legitimate.

A number of police departments across our nation have commented that the current clown scare hysteria is being fueled primarily by unconfirmed and undocumented reports on social media, that they have no knowledge of. That is exactly how panic spreads: through rumours like this one being shared and repeated, without any first hand knowledge of anything factual in nature.

The fact that Eugene's Register Guard newspaper, as well as the web sites for the 4 local TV news programs on KEZI, KVAL, KMTR, and KSLR have absolutely nothing about any such incident happening, would tend to totally discount this report.

You are not doing anyone a favor, by sharing and spreading information that is most likely a hoax. A person should always take the time to verify something that they see written on the Internet by an individual, before forwarding it to others. Internet hoaxsters count on people immediately swallowing and believing their story.

Thanks for the condescending "warning". Here's a report from a different neighbor in the area:

"I checked the EPD Dispatch and there was a record of the call and 4 officers were sent to the area. I also saw people walking with flashlights in the neighborhood looking around until at least midnight."

I was not sure whether it was real of not, and I'm still not 100% sure, but better safe than sorry. Now I'm putting you back on my ignore list.

It's all that anti American Soros loving Socialist hack Stevie King. He's using the inter-webs and dis-info-tech to promote his stupid clown movie coming out next year. If outright lies on social media are this effective throwing an election, well then they should be able to sell a ton of movie tickets. Right?

Remember the clown called H. G. Wells and his War of the Worlds PSA?

Brutus Out

Ain't that made of goose liver and put on a cracker, or somethin'? :D

Too Late!!! It's called Silly Spray and comes in all sorts of fun colors for your Clown party pleasure!!!

Does it come in flammable fire color? 'Cuz that would be the BEST right thar! :s0019:

I am an RSO at our gun club and have had many oportunities to listen to various instructors address this issue with prospectiv cc holders. The best advice I have heard is to take the time to consult an attorney concerning this issue as advice from any liberal newspaper is no advice at all and ,especially, and unfortunately reading any verbage fro the Oregon law. Reason given is the attorney's experience with how the courts vew the matter and how the legal system reacts.

Right. Just before I go to bed lol.

What might have happened had she blown him out of his clownshoes while he was trying to force the door? Legally I mean, would she be on solid grounds for self defense? Would it only be a self defense shoot if he'd forced the door open first?
No court in the country would go against a woman with a child in a self defense case, as long as she could present proof that he, indeed, was attempting to break in. Any man who would ignore repeated threats from an armed woman is a very dangerous person and shouldn't be given even the slightest advantage (e.g., allowing him to get INSIDE the house, before shooting).
There have been several cases of elderly people who shot criminals through their front doors and were found innocent of any criminal wrongdoing.

Oregon law (copied from the interwebs (Oregon laws.org), so unknown if this is current:

§ 161.219¹
Limitations on use of deadly physical force in defense of a person

Notwithstanding the provisions of ORS 161.209 (Use of physical force in defense of a person), a person is not justified in using deadly physical force upon another person unless the person reasonably believes that the other person is:

(1) Committing or attempting to commit a felony involving the use or threatened imminent use of physical force against a person; or

(2) Committing or attempting to commit a burglary in a dwelling; or

(3) Using or about to use unlawful deadly physical force against a person. [1971 c.743 §23]
In this day and age of smartphones, seems to me that it would be easy to shoot video of the clown trying to pry open the door, failing to exit when instructed and then shot while still refusing to leave when asked.

While each & every situation is different, my priorities would be having the family egress to the safe room while I'm on the phone with police & challenging the attempted intruder. No hands free for a video that I can think on.

Now if the intruder had already gained entry, then the situation has changed drastically leaving no hands free for a phone at all, until the intruder is SECURELY compliant or a non-threat.

-Either of these scenarios would be recorded in (& outside) my house by other means. Not many people have these types of security systems.
