Gun violence claims over 33,000 lives a year in the U.S., but the idea of bolstering gun laws remains deeply divisive. After the Las Vegas shooting, 61 percent of Americans said they prefer stricter laws while 11 want fewer restrictions, according to Gallup. NewsHour Weekend Special Correspondent Joanne Jennings traveled to Oregon, where a group of gun owners say they want to find middle ground.

I am pretty sure that all of us here are wanting people to be safe while using or being around firearms.

A criminal using a firearm isn't likely to be worried 'bout being safe or if you can safely use a gun...
Being able to safely use a gun or the knowledge of firearm safety , won't save you if you are being shot at by a crazy man or criminal...
A criminal by definition is not worried about breaking laws..so what is one more law to break to him?...
Hell he might not even be aware of the laws that are being broken at the time of his crime...

Enforcing existing laws...
Fixing the BGC system...
A better mental health system...
A PR program that shows that gun owners as a rule are safe and law abiding...
Getting our elected representatives on board with the idea that its not the gun ...Its how the person uses it...
These things are what might make a difference in how non-gun people view guns and gun owners.
But I'm not holding my breath...

"Shall not be infringed."

PERIOD.

No more "conversations" about a damn thing, they always go one way. They don't want conversation or debate, they want control. I'm done with all these liars, fools, poseurs and control freaks.

"Gun Owning Group in Oregon..".

Since when do they get the idea they can speak for others...? Or in the military vernacular; who died and left them in charge?

"Middle Ground" is a meme for compromise Individual Liberty.

"Divisiveness" is a definition that exists in the mind of a person who expects the status quo to shift in their own favor; for Individual Liberty (not collectivism) to compromise from the original plan (2a). :s0025:

Giving ground from the original plan (2a), has all been on the part of, and at the expense of Individual Liberty.:s0123:

What "Middle Ground" should be is: STHU and keep your eyes and hands off of anything that does not belong to you!

"Middle Ground" is nothing less than the compromise of Individual Liberty; it doesn't sound any less canned; coming out of the pie hole of a Gun Ownership Group in Oregon...

The perlocution here is the idea that if we fail to give another "inch" of Individual Liberty, we can loose a "mile" of it.

The illocution here is the reality; they are going to try to take it all no matter what we agree to.

So, NO!

NO COMPROMISE!
As stated above, One small group dose not speed for Me and any one else, and the idea of compromise isn't going to fly no matter what language or feel good you try to make! SHAL NOT BE INFRINGED as my friend GOG stated out so eloquently and yet plainly! THIS it the root of the entire problem, expecting a discussion and a reach for "Compromise" that I am not willing to have!

If you want to sit down with me and have a discussion, bring coffee and and be prepared to remove ALL 2nd restrictions, because that's where I wanna see things go! Be prepared to talk about the REAL issues, and be prepared to act on that discussion!
I will not entertain any discussion of COMPROMISE, PERIOD! end of story, go crawl back to the Bloomingturd sponsor you are beholden to, and leave my Life, rights, liberties, and pursuit of happiness the hell alone!

Here is a compromise; Subsidized non-compulsory gun safety courses offered by police departments. Let us see how many gun grabbers jump on board with a solution that is effective but doesn't take away rights.

Here's an idea, just enforce some of the million-gazillion existing laws and regulations that we have on the books already. No more mew laws for a while please.

I'm all for having reasonable conversations about safety and how to improve gun safety, but I've reached my end with "common sense gun restrictions". As many of us here already know, they don't mean "common sense", they mean to restrict and control us. They absolutely refuse to recognize the reality - gun laws only harm/restrict law-abiding folks like us. They do nothing, as has been evidenced by some recent events, to stop criminals from doing criminal things. Yet they persist in punishing us - which only demonstrates their real motive - control.

If they truly cared about saving lives, they'd look other places than guns. Cancer from smoking alone, per CDC statistics, claims over 500,000 lives in the US every year - every year. That's magnitudes more than all the gun deaths combined, yet what do they do to stop smoking? Nothing. Why? Because tobacco brings in millions and millions of dollars to both Democrats and Republicans. If guns brought that kind of money into both of them, they'd probably never mention guns again. It's the height of hypocrisy, but, unfortunately your average low-information voter only cares to work off of sound bites and emotion. Flash pictures of a few kids killed by guns and they want all guns banned. Sorry to say, it's an effective tool when looking to get the support of those types of voters.

As for gun owners that wish to restrict the rights of other gun owners under the false guise of saving lives, they can pound sand. They're worse, in my mind, than the non-gun owning anti's because they're willing to sell out their own. They should be ashamed.

So, again, if the sides want to come together and have a real conversation, there's going to have to be a lot of movement our direction first - because we've given up far too much already.

As Always, etrain16 nailed it!
WE need a common unified voice and the power of the people behind that voice to push back against the anti gun crowd!
No More Compromise!
Discussions moving forward are to get back lost rights, enforce just laws while removing unjust ones, and moving forward with things like Constitional Carry, removal of the NFA, removal of the BATF, removal of the Tax Stamp, and all things those encompass!
Moving forward, lets bring back mental health intuitions instead of building more prisons, lets punish crime and make it stick, lets take care of our VETS, and get them the real help, health, and benefits they/WE earned and deserve. lets close our borders and prevent illegals from entering, and staying, lets stop illegal drug traffic, and lets clean out the gangs!!! Lets take the gov out of our schools, and lets put a stop to Bizillinears buying and funding elections, local and state offices, and specialist interests, and lets have term limits on politicos and a set pay for those positions! Lets stop with the racist krap and except responsibility for our own selves and our own positions in life! MAGA!!!
Those are the discussions I AM willing to have, otherwise, GFYSS:mad:

the big problem with their plan is they are trying to legislate violence and safety. Criminals don't care about the law, and responsible people don't need the law to tell them to be safe.

So when their newest law passes and does nothing to reduce violent crime or accidents, logically they will just pass another new one to address the next dilemma that shows up and the cycle repeats until all rights are gone because really truly nobody needs an AR15 to defend their home.

Please note the subtle sarcasm hiding in my comment....

We should be going the other direction.
Your right we should but as long as left/antis etc. have nothing to loose (and we stand to loose a lot) they will maintain their offensive position while we maintain the defensive. It has always been this way with the fight for gun rights. Any win for the antis, no matter how small, is seen as a large victory for them as it is purely conceptual for them - there is no physical gain or loss for them. For 'us' however we see and experience physical losses to gun control. Until some kind of loss is experienced by the antis similar to the losses we stand to the direction will remain the same.

Exactly, this is why their "compromise" agenda is a lie.
You cant compromise with someone who has nothing to give up in exchange.
