Try having a four foot stent removed for kidney stones. After the first two feet the female tech says.." You stopped breathing"..."You're dam right I stopped breathing" !
My dad had that procedure done, and he was a tough SOB. He said it hurt like HELL

Been uroscoped 3 times, catheterized once, and had kidney stones blasted and stent removal. It ALL hurts when the pipe arrives at the prostate, if you still got one. But the worst part of the stent removal was the urologist bill for $700 for 2min job. No insurance. The whole bill for kidney stones was around $20,000 if I include everybody involved. Now I drink lots of water!!!

PS did the nurse and doc at the stent removal tell you to think of a nice warm beach and sunshine. Yeah, then the tidal wave of pain comes.

Why should I have one? I am perfectly healthy, no pain or bleeding. I even had my doctor say that the trauma of the procedure might not be worth the risk.
A few years later and a new doc said I really should, I said ok, but kept putting it off. Back to the doc for annual check up (68 years old and feeling fine). He asked if I'd had my colonoscopy, I said not yet, but supposed I should. He referred me and got one scheduled.
Worse part was drinking the prep. They doped me and I went right under. Next thing I knew I wake up in recovery and the Doctor comes in and tells me what they found didn't look good and they took samples to send out.
Bottom line I had cancer. They took about a foot a half of my colon out and said I looked good. Six months later back in for another exam, wake up in recover to get the news that there was more cancer. In for another colon shortening. Two colonoscopies later I am still cancer free, feeling fine and happy to be alive.
GO GET IT DONE.

This is one of those situations where you have to "go with the flow". If you relax and stop fighting the procedure, you will feel better and things will be better in the end (pun intended).

You won't regret having this done. While it may be inconvenient and uncomfortable, dying in agony from a Cancer that could have been easily avoided is a horrid alternative.

Arf The Wonder Chicken says: "Don't be chicken, get it done."

Yeah...once you get them, you are likely to again and again. I drink a gallon a day plus take the maximum dose of Allopurinol, which helps slow the re-occurrences.
It's amazing how a 9mm rock can be worth so much. I hope Trump care helps get costs back down to where they should be.

Let this be a lesson to you. How much is your life worth? A little discomfort?

Think about it.

I've done my fair share of research concerning colon cancer. I read, and was told by the buttectomy specialists, that it skips a generation. I've been clear of anything since the first procedure @45. After seeing what my dad went through up till he passed, it's a very wise decision you get yourself checked.

Good post.

Seems now there is a little different criteria about the need for a colonoscopy. I have had two. One at 50, and one at sixty. My previous doctor believed in the procedure and insisted on it. The second time, they did find a polyp, so now they say my frequency needs to be no more than five years. But...Hold our horses...Since I'm now on Medicare, and had to change my insurance coverage, I can no longer visit my previous doctor, and have switched to Kaiser. Kaiser does not routinely do colonoscopies. They do the "occult blood test", and if there's no blood found, they do not schedule a colonoscopy. Saves them money when you're on their plan, but since I'm on Medicare, you'd think they'd want me to have the procedure, since Medicare pays the bill and they'd make money.

And back to the cool-aid prep. Absolutely disgusting! 4-litres is a lot. I gagged with every swallow after I was about half done. Mixed another flavor pack with the remaining mix hoping it would be easier to tolerate. Gagged twice as much. Even the flavor pack is disgusting. They probably make it that way so nobody gets hooked on the stuff.

WAYNO.

I have VA since the last tier was restored. Otherwise I be dead or broke by now. Toooo many health issues.

Yup, mine was 9mm too. Had it for months while waiting to be scheduled. Not fun. When I was first diagnosed I had gone to the ER in dire pain. They did CT and found I had 9 stones. My work had been taking me 300mi/day in hot weather so I was drinking a lot of Diet Pepsi. Not a good idea for a diabetic. I also have gout. Did not know Allopurinol would help with stones. My doc stopped short of recommending it because the gout does not show in my blood tests and is not bad if I watch my diet. Diabetic diet, kidney disease diet, gout diet, kidney stone diet, low protein diet, low carbohydrate diet, low fat diet... what's left to eat? Aw screw it.

The VA made you wait for months packing a 9mm stone ? Sounds more like a dam Japanese prison camp :s0002:

The last one I had was by a gorgeous blond lady ,early thirties. AWKWARD
I asked her how she got the shi tty job ? She said its day shift only an actually one of the best you can have. They didn't put me out so we had a nice chat:confused:

Nah, that was 2yrs before the otherwise POS congress reversed George W's restrictions. I just couldn't find anybody to do it within a decent time frame. Lived in Bend at the time. Still paying on that $20k bill from 2006. :(

Under President Donald John Trump, the VA Health Care System should be improving very soon!

While they have been treating me reasonably well, President Trump said that he'll arrange for significant improvements to it.

Go, President Trump!

I was very fearful of getting one. Since my grandfather and uncle both ended up with colon cancer, it was in my best interest to have it done.
The worst part was drinking the solution. I plugged my nose and chugged it. The aftermath of the solution just reminds me of eating my mother in law's cooking. Crap your brains out for 12 hours and then all is clear :(

As for the actual procedure, they opted to keep me awake just in case I needed to move a little. I could have cared less about what was going on? They rolled me into the room and I could see the 6' long scope hanging there...I said something about wanting to take it home with my for a new borescope!

Get it done. All they found inside was cheese logs and beef jerky from when I was a kid!
