Handloader and Rifle are two fine mags that I forgot. Fur-Fish&Game and Backwoodsman are great as well, though not necessarily "gun" mags. I love the fluff as well. I just want to warn naive folks that just because Craig Boddington(not picking on him, just a familiar name to use as an example) recommends the new Winchester Model 70, doesn't mean that he takes it in the field, unless being paid by a magazine, which is paid by the manufacturer. And I couldn't agree with Spitpatch more on his entire post.

One thing that very much has my feathers ruffled. I can deal with the "hot chick" in the Kahr ad's, but Gun World now posts ads for pornography. Not in the back, with the rest of the ads, but in the middle of a review on the polymer Taurus Judge. I find this in bad taste. I guess I would be OK with it if it were balanced by a cutaway, right in the middle of a porno film, of Elmer Keith describing the virtues of the .44 magnum. Does anyone want to see Skeeter Skelton in their porn flicks? Please, keep your porn flicks out of my Skeeter Skelton(Freudian slip intended).

There is no mag or book that has all of the answers. The only real way to decide what does and doesn't work is time and research. I started when I was 5. I don't fall into the traps of advertising, because I know what does and does not work for me. Someone wanting to jump into collecting, competitive shooting, hunting, defense, etc. could be mislead by a sales pitch, posed as a "review". I enjoy my magazines. They give me new reasons to love guns and new reasons to hate David Fortier's "writing".

Anyway, enjoy your mags! Don't forget, you get a free one every month with your NRA membership. Also, the new Ruger American is a fine rifle. Go buy one now!(I received no payment for this review). Kip.

Backwoodsman and Backwoods Home... Two magazines written by readers, published by small-time folk who do it for fun before profit. I even wrote an article for Backwoodsman a couple months ago, and got a free 2 year subscription!
