"Costco" is trending on Twitter. It seems worse than Black Friday at many Costco around the country(many pics & vids). I was afraid of this more than the virus I think. :p

Far more concerned about the possible ramifications of a cascading economic collapse due to the virus, than the virus itself.

If it can get bad in China, it can get bad here. Now they are throwing the term "community spread" around because they are stumped as to how some people caught it. It seemed like it happened pretty quickly in Italy and Iran.

Unfortunate and condolence to the family.
The story does state other underlying medical issues. What is there between the lines is the elderly, sick and living conditions greatly add to the level of risk. Of course, I am not a doctor. Though, the doctors I do know have not made a run for the hills yet.

That will likely be the case. Japan recently announced that they are closing all elementary, middle and high schools, which will do very little. It's just President Abe trying to take action. However, they have a huge network of trains and subways in all of their cities. When they have to close those down to stop the spread of the virus then the economic collapse will begin. Everybody commutes by some form of rail over there.
Back here, we are not really subject to that except for a few major cities. What I fear is that if things get bad enough here they will close down common areas of high foot traffic such as grocery stores, malls, warehouse clubs, etc. At that point everyone will turn to Amazon and other delivery services. Gorcery stores will have to follow suit.

March Madness ain't gonna be the same. Maybe now some of those "It's not as bad as the flu" types will sit up and take notice. LOL
Northern Italy is playing soccer games where no fans and no journalists are allowed.

Apparently Milan area has beenidentified as the source for many outbreaks in Europe. The Pope is currently ill with a cold so poeple r curious if he has it.

You're right. Check out the climb in the first 6 days once 100 cases were detected:

I meant to post this the other day when it came in. It is the Vanguard Group's economic analysis on the topic: Coronavirus, uncertainty, and the markets

"...Our Investment Strategy Group estimates that, in what it sees as its most likely of three scenarios, the virus will take about 0.5 percentage point of growth from China's economy this year."

Granted that's from data mid month, and also

"...assumes the virus would primarily remain contained in mainland China."

I submit: Half a percentage point, really? Even using that data & that assumption. I mean come on! Talk about projecting PURE fantasy.

I am still wondering why the fear and terror of Tuberculosis isn't causing widespread panic and freaking out. It is a highly contagious disease, resistant to many types of antibiotics and cannot even be cured in some people. It affects over 1 billion people (1/6th of the Earth) and kills over 1.5 million - 2 million people a year. Yet, nobody seems concerned. My brother who worked at OHSU said because of Portland's increasing homeless problem and bad sanitation that he was very worried about a TB epidemic in Portland and that it has been plaguing the homeless population. Especially, now with open borders, homeless people living in filth and intermingling with normal city dwellers. Portland , Seattle and San Francisco (three cities with largest amount of human waste, squalor, homelessness) seem like the perfect epicenters of any future outbreak.

I just am shocked nobody seems to even care about this widespread pandemic. No masks, raiding grocery stores, stocking up on guns/ammo.

I was in Africa with people coughing on me who had TB and where you are in crowded markets, buses, etc. It's a growing epidemic that is highly contagious and very deadly. Nobody seems too worried. I wonder what happened if we read the news article today, "Tuberculosis is killing millions of people! Epidemic! Run for your lives!"

Not surprising the socialist left coast is the location for the first death. Open boarder to the south, sanctuary cities. What is surprising is how fast.

Foreverlost,

I wouldn't rule out undocumented immigrants from China or even infected workers from commercial ships, etc making their way over here via the ports of Seattle/Tacoma or Port of San Francisco.. Anyone see a potential connection here? Also, San Francisco and Seattle area have some of the largest foreign Chinese population in the country.

Hmm, great question! However TB, although nasty and near endemic in some areas, still isn't as easily contagious as this seems to be.

I'd also wager that if outbreaks of TB were as rampant in developed countries as this is headed towards, the outcry would be exactly the same.

As you note, you were in close confines with infected people, yet here you are. Did you catch it?

Camelfilter, I am not so sure.. According to the news, you have to be within 6 feet of a person to be exposed to the Coronavirus. Also, if it was so contagious that the virus lived for long periods of time outside human body or if it was airborne, I would expect the infection rate to be significantly higher. From what I am seeing it sounds like, maybe it is not all that much easier to acquire. There is about 9,000 cases of TB in our country a year as well.

And, with one billion people infected in the world, I hardly think of Tuberculosis as not being easily acquired. It infects over 1/6th of our world's population. That is pretty significant. I have met people who came back from Africa who couldn't get rid of their infection very easily and lived with it for years.

The only potential is that this virus could be more contagious while people are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.

Sorry, didn't see your second question. Nope, I managed to survive my trips to Africa.. I took lots of herbs, ate healthy , exercised and prayed. I came down with dysentery illness on my first trip after eating some not so good food, but that was my only issue. I did get hit with a mild travel virus I feared was malaria, but it turned out to just be a travel flu that is pretty common for people going to foreign countries. I was terrified though at first, but my fever didn't hit more than 102F and broke the next day. Took lots of herbs..

I was pretty freaked out about Tuberculosis (among many other things) though in Africa and lots of people had it and were coughing all over you.

If the coronavirus was coming from our southern border. Would America change it's attitude about the immigrants/migrants coming from that direction?

Aloha, Mark
Nope! Our various boundaries are all porous. Mexico border is just the most obvious. But regardless of that, millions of self-righteous voting "woke"tards will continue fighting to keep it open and the flood of unknowns pouring in.
