For millennia, more of those with an aversion to snakes survived long enough to procreate than those without.Right. The generalization that big predators are usually more dangerous to us than small ones is basically correct. More humans get killed by bears than by minks, even though minks have a much worse attitude. But poisonous snakes are an exception. Yet we seem to have built in instincts that cover the snake exception too. Humans tend to be afraid of snakes, big or little. Whether that fear was instinctive or just very easily learned wasn't settled the last I read anything about it. Most snakes aren't poisonous, but its safer to avoid all of them until you learn the details than to do the opposite. Chimps will throw rocks at snakes and try to hit them with sticks.
