Remington was purchased Cerberus Capital Management in April of 2007 and added to their Freedom Group of other firearms companies (Bushmaster, DPMS Panther and Marlin among them). Cerberus Capital is one of the biggest private investment companies in the world. Former VP Dan Quayle heads up one of their divisions. I am sure that Freedom Group can throw their weight around at the pentagon when it comes to procurement contracts. I haven't heard anything good about the quality of recently made Remington guns.
Whether or not a Remington built M4 is a better rifle than the Colt remains to be seen. Personally, I really doubt it. Mil-spec or not, pentagon procurement has a way of making the lowest bidder products end up costing the taxpayers a lot more than the original bid price.
