Haven't thought of that canned brown bread in decades. We used to have it on hunting trips with my Dad and Granddad when I was a youngster. I remember it being great when slathered with butter, but just about anything with a bunch of butter is pretty good. I'm going to have to find some and give it a try.
 
I like it on occasion. In camp, or at home: heat up a cast iron skillet; plop in a couple 1/2" slices; heat, turning until warm and toasty on both sides; spread on butter, cream cheese or canned frosting; enjoy!

Also, when moving about eight years ago, I found a can in the back of a cupboard that had been forgotten for somewhere between five and seven years... Yeah, it tasted fine and I did not get sick or constipated, though no one else I asked was tempted, or even curious.
