This isnt what the law states. People arent "scared to defend themselves", they just know to follow the law unless they want a life changing felony.

Personally, im not interested in catching a felony to stop someone else's misdemeanor. Then again, i dont even believe in private property so ive got a much different stance from the getgo. Zips up flame suit…
"Don't even believe in private property"... Socialist?

I believe the owner of car being stolen will be charged and he/she will lose their gun rights for life.Unless the guy stealing the car tried to run over the car owner. I did not read the story.

I believe that if I have a right to what I worked to earn, and that right trumps what someone else believes regarding their right to my property.
Thats your belief and thats cool, but that doesnt give the right to take a life over private property. We have laws against that.

And just fyi, just because i don't believe in private property doesnt mean i want to steal yours.
ahh, okay... Looks like Communist then. Sorry for the incorrect labeling...
Its half red and half black… communist is just red.

I never accused you of wanting to take anything. Just trying to understand your comment about not believing in private property.

*Edit, cause I suck at spelling...

Yeah, which stands for Libertarian Communism or Anarchist Communism, evidently.
For the purposes of this discussion; does it matter? Regardless of his beliefs of private property, there are laws against shooting someone stealing property in most states.

Ultimately, crime has been getting worse now for some time, and it is the DIRECT result of judges and prosecutors being soft on crime. Why would a thief stop stealing stuff if there is no deterrent?
Broken bones and massive amounts of pain, AT THE VERY MINIMUM, is a great start as a deterrent, although I prefer to hear news stories about them getting shot, ran over or simply beat to death!

It is, but the same laws apply to you shooting someone as them stealing your stuff. You would be stooping to their level, and they have nothing to lose. You on the other hand.....

Again……

If your only tool/resource to combat a stressful situation is a gun then you should probably just leave it at home and go back to the drawing board.

This isn't the Wild West anymore. As much as we would love it to be from time to time.

Do I care the thief got shot… NOPE

Do I care that the vehicle owner will probably spend a good portion of his life in jail (unless other factors that warranted deadly force are exposed)…. NOPE

Both individuals are equally as stupid and emotionally immature. Just in their own ways.

Now if other factors were in play I would say the shooting was justified. But with what we know right now….. welcome to the land of felony. Hope you weren't supporting a family.

Auburn police said that shortly before 6:30 a.m., the suspect got into a Toyota Camry that was left running and tried to steal it from the driveway.

The homeowner, who was inside, saw what was happening on his security cameras and then ran outside, confronted the suspect and then shot the man, Crossley said.

After the suspect was shot, he ran from the home only to be caught by Auburn officers a few blocks away.

Stupid car owner, stupid thief.
I hope the cite the Bozo that left his running motor vehicle unattended.

☹️☹️

You hope they cite him for letting his car run..?!

I can see someone wanting him to be cited for shooting the thief, even if I don't agree, but citing the car owner for leaving his car running... That is some bullsh!t right there.

I warm my car up in the AM before I drive it to work, should I be cited?

Let's all just

Pro Tip

Don't be a dumb a$$ and leave your vehicle running, unlocked and unoccupied.

So I guess he deserved to have his car stolen then. Awesome.

I guess no one here has ever left their car running to run back into the house cause they forgot something or to run into 7eleven to grab a pack of smokes, or.....

Leaving the car running isn't a crime and isn't cause to wish bad fortune upon someone.

You know, it wasn't THAT long ago, there was no issue because folks were afraid to or just knew better. People are "raised" to be pieces of bubblegum these days. They have no regard for others or their their property (or the hard work it took to earn/buy it).
People that think the American Dream is something that is owed to them by the rest of society and therefore have no intent on EARNING it themselves. All this feel-good bullbubblegum with regard to equity, fairness, people's entitlement delusions are absolutely astonishing and absolute garbage.
