The string was a machine gun or at least a conversion unit. Yeah, it was by definition. The FRT isn't by definition.

Very true. They did rule that the string is a machine gun. Then years later changed the ruling to say only if it was installed in a firearm. I believe the second ruling was in 2007 vasquez letter if I recall correctly.

Also re so Sobo's point above, I think it is right on personally. The guy in wa gun law video said atf guys were nice etc. But how does one know that a supervisor or some other employee with a quota to fill, a crusade to pursue, or who wants to make a name for themselves can't go back and say, "here is the evidence of possession".

Apparently the whole rare breed thing started because of one agent in wa DC who kept pursuing and pursuing it (from what I understand).

They don't have enough jail space to lock everybody up......

There is a bunch of "legal" reasons to not do that! Folks really need to seek out a lawyer to answer everything!

I understand they want to make it a prohibited item, but to be clear, the trigger itself, outside of a firearm is NOT a machine gun in and of itself or subject to a tax stamp. It's only when you put it in a firearm that they will class the "firearm" as a machine gun. The worst they can charge you with is possession of a prohibited item, right?

IMHO, I've satisfied the machine guns not allowed law simply by removing the FRT from all firearms. But I could be wrong.

I know it's in the rules they do that with some components that can readily convert a firearm to full auto. An FRT doesn't do that though. So isn't it still just a prohibited item (according to the ATF) and not actually within the law as a convesion component?

Even intstalled it still doesn't make it a full auto (machine gun).

I get it though. I'm just being beligerent because the ATF hasn't actually satisfied anything within any current law or definition. Ie., a "machine gun" (repeated fire with a single trigger pull) that isn't actually a machine gun or any component, part or conversion kit of a machine gun.

Considering that, I can understand why some people are using stall tactics to delay the ATF from confiscating their FRT's until the suits overturn the rule that is not compliant with any law on the books.

....for conversations sake.

Just a side note to the above. I think that's the theory behind the ATF, so far, not being able to produce any warrants. They don't have any "legal" definition or law to present to a judge indicating that FRT's fall in the "machine gun" category.

They need to get a prosecution conviction out of a judge to "validate" that it is legally recognized to be a machine gun. By that particular judge, anyway.

As far as I have heard, all private citizen confiscations, forfeitures and destruction have been fully voluntary.
