I don't think 12 mags is a bad start. Even if 114 goes into affect there is nothing prohibiting the purchase of springs, followers or base plates to maintain what you have. As long as the retainer lips don't wear/foul out you're good to go.

It mainly depends on what your focus is. 10-12 per rifle isn't bad if you are mainly focused on typical field and range use.

On the other hand... if you are more SHTF prepper minded.... that simply won't cut it. In a rolling firearm fight... you're going to loose mags. There are no "time-outs" for you to retrieve spent mags and neatly retuck them back into your ammo pouch.

They really aren't all that spendy though, "cheap insurance" and... if mag bans persist... there is no telling how many you may wear through during your lifetime. More than you need is better than not having enough reliable mags. YMMV
