So the holidays are over and I have funds for a new toy trying to get an idea what would make a good 300yard rifle it will be used for deer target shooting and possibly elk or black beer

So why not 30-30? I have taken Deer and Black bear with mine (Have watched hunting show receintly were they took a Moose or Elk with a 30-30). Also sure you can make 300yrd shots with it, just have to know your ballistics for that range. Western Oregon/Washington Hunting most likely will never shoot 300yds anyway.
Budget would be under 1000 with scope the olds of ever shooting 300yards not likely but more or less the 200 and under yard mark and not a fan of heavy recoil

Lets end this now. Get rifle below and have $100 left over for ammo.

Find a used Rem 700 SPS in .308 (slightly heavier barrel), choose a scope of your liking, and go have fun for under one grand.
Nightforce maybe? My old Savage 112 270 shoots MOA all day long most of them do. I am selling my 700 ADC and buying another Savage in 308
plan on spending more for the scope than the rifle
