Can anyone give me a run down of what elk tag I should buy or "draw for" in SW WA? I was planning to hunt north west of Vancouver since I know the area.

Not looking for a honey spot, just don't have the faintest clue about how all the tags work.

Aw, it's ok if you just want to go camping... lot's of wolves here chasing the elk out. Buddies from Bend hunted Mt. Emily last year and didn't see any hair. Ukiah unit on the other hand was very good.

Yup, that's it. My hunting buddies just love company from the land of "sound shots". Me, I don't give a hoot cuz I don't hunt anymore. I hang around camp and watch the trucks scream by.

Speaking of tags, I have a question that you may able to answer. I drew a controlled, spike only, tag with my 2nd choice. I have since decided I would rather pick up a bow and chase elk on a general archery tag. Will I be allowed to purchase the archery tag? If I am unsuccessful can I then purchase the spike tag?

Generally speaking you are limited to a single elk tag. Your choice to purchase the type you want.
