Can you point to any actual EVIDENCE for that speculation? Documentaton? News reports? Something besides "conservative" blog verbiage? Statements like yours are often simply MADE UP to serve an opinion, but gain credence amongst the ignorant even when false..........................elsullo

Heck elsullo....I think he was being sarcastic.:s0114:

"When a business is barely scraping buy, and taxes are not only raised but made retroactive, you have to cut all corners possible. One of the easiest ways to free up revenue is to cut employees and consolidate duties."

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. There's not a savvy small business owner out there that has employees on the payroll merely for their entertainment.

Employee's are either fullfilling a task and generating revenue or they're not. If there is no task or revenue, then they are down the road.

If you can afford to drop employees, your business sucked before the tax hit, you were bleeding cash, and you just didn't know it.

IMHO.

It is easy to see the result of high taxation if you want to. Look at the states that gained population and those who lost population according to the census.

Taxes in Oregon suck.

Income tax is one of the highest. Property tax is one of the highest.

Coupled with overly high property values, generally higher expenses for food, gas, and goods, etc. (even without a sales tax) it is very expensive to live here. Granted, Boston, New York, San Francisco are obviously more expensive, but for cities the size of Portland....it's expensive.

I once did the math for the cost difference between here and some of the other places I've lived. On average, to have the same amount of disposable income, I would need to earn an additional $17-$21K/year.

Couple all this with an average unemployment of 10-11% statewide (about 20% in the rural areas), the only person in my family with a steady paying job is me. No one else is able to find a job here.

Money isn't everything, but it sure makes things more enjoyable.

Until this state and the fed for that matter, gets spending under control, we are going no were. Let's not forget, IT'S YOUR MONEY, doesn't matter were you are on the economic scale. The money does not belong to the politicians. Anyone that believes the State of Oregon would eliminate property taxes for a sales tax is drinking too much progressive liberal cool-aid. Not going to happen. More government is not the answer.

Why not listen to what an actual economist has to say about the issue: Rhetoric Rides Again

Oh yeah, if you disagree, you are a racist. Right lefties?

It is funny how this supposed "expert economist" fails in his simple math. He makes simple mistakes like comparing the price of college as a "post tax" expense while using an example of two people earning $125K each a year as being in the new tax bracket. That is just a complete lie. People with a kid in college and a duel income would have to be earning closer to $400k to be in the new tax bracket since federal taxes are figured on "taxable income" and not on gross. Seems to me like this is just a mouthpiece for a conservative think tank (Yes, the Hoover Institute IS a conservatibve organization).

Thomas Sowell doesn't write for 2nd graders, I think he assumes his readers know how we are taxed. I wish he hadn't left out two words that allows him to be attacked as a liar but writers have word limits imposed by editors. The whole point is that these people are not millionaires and billionaires.

Referring to Thomas Sowell as a supposed expert economist is laughable, dismissing the point because "just a mouthpiece for a conservative think tank" says so shows a lot. Way to go Chief! :s0155:

You can call people what ever you want but sooner or later you got to wake your sorry butt up to the fact that democrats have run this state into a socialist hellll. How anyone can stand with this bunch after they have destroyed the Oregon economy isn't beyond me, it's obviouse. People are willing to sell out their neighbors for their own self intrest. It will come back to bite you. It allready has :s0114::s0114::s0112: keep watching.

He is blatantly deceptive with his math and works for an organization with an agenda. That is enough to discredit his article in itself. If you say it the way it should be said "A couple earning nearly a half a million dollars a year with one child in college will pay a tax rate closer to (but not as high as) what they paid during the Reagan administration on a portion of their income" it suddenly becomes a whole lot less shocking. A little hard to get the masses stroked into a frenzy when you present it correctly. Think that might be why he choose to make such an obvious omission?

Yeah, who was in control of congress for 8 solid years of the past decade. Was it the dems? I do not think so. This Dems vs. Repubs stuff is so old and tired. Anyone who hangs on to that crap believing the fallacy that one side is any better than the other is either delusional or full of crap.

As for the waste you mentioned in the other post, what would you cut from the budget and what percentage of the budget does it comprise?

It was the Republicans, if you take the time to count.......................elsullo

Rufus,

What is your point? If I burn my house down tomorrow, what does it matter who lived in it the 50 years previous??? The damage was done the day I lit the match.

I seem to remember a balanced budget and a surplus a few years back.
