I am just curious about why get a MSR/Battle Rifle in 308/762 NATO? This pertains to AR10, FAL, Cetme, Scar, HK 91/G3, M1 etc. Please don't just say it is America so why not? I ask why not just take an M1 Abrams into gang areas and solve the problem? I ask for input and information because I am debating if I should. I at this time see the benefits of the round in a bolt action.

Why get a bolt action?

A suppressed Springfield Socom 16 is very good for social situations.

Indeed.

I shot up an old Dodge Coronet with a FAL; ran two 20-round mags of 7.62 FMJ into that thing, and blew it up real good.
Anybody inside would have been having a bad day. Not sure my 5.56 M855's could manage that kind of wreckage. The 7.62's sure did.

Try Blacktip 30-06 ;)
My M1 garand can shoot straight through 1in steel plate haha

But my Ruger can handle heavier ammo!

Jokes aside, everyone needs a few .308s... I'm one receiver from a second FAL actually. Then maybe a PTR-91 GI after that.

I would love to own an AR10, but at this point I can't afford to stockpile enough ammo, magazines and kit to make it worth it to me. It would be a fun toy, but thats about it. I would probably rather have something like a Ruger gunsight scout with a 16" barrel suppressed. That would compliment a good lightweight AR15, rather than try to replace it.

I don't have nearly as much stockpiled as 5.56 but when I do purchase it is usually in 7.62 because you can find better deals on it. It has taken me a long time but may be worth it if ever needed. I will agree with you on one thing. Most of the time it sits in my safe and I do grab other guns when going to the range, so it isn't a necessity to own one. In fact if someone wanted to buy mine I would probably sell it. ;)

If I was going to invest in another caliber, it would be 6.5 grendel to be honest. Cheap steel cases and reasonable match ammo, just waiting to see if it takes off or not.
