Yes that looks about right. I seem to recall one-piece grips, but it's been about 40 years since I've held that gun. The action broke, dad took it to a "gunsmith" who told him it would cost more to fix than it was worth. So dad filed down the firing pin on the hammer to make it inert, and it was a toy gun for me for 5 years thereafter. I traded it for a video game I really wanted, and we were both happy.Like this one that is a model 999

Bought a sportsman like you have pictured for my son, he wanted a break top pistol.
Same! I was 6 years old, and had to shoot it single action due to the stiff trigger. I also shot dad's Winchester model 150 .22 lever action. I still have them, as well as my grandfather's chromed High Standard 6" deluxe. Both revolvers are almost like new condition.Dad's High-Standard Double Nine .22 revolver when I was like 8.. popped some cans with dad, not scared.
I wish I was one of those kids who got to own or shoot a .22 early in life. Sadly, I have a father who's a Nam vet with severe ptsd inducing experiences that informed his decision to disavow guns..of any type. His last weapon hurrah was with an M14..in '68.Same! My first was a 6.5 jap, $15 off the used rack. At the local gun store. It didn't have a front sight so my dad cut a penny in quarters and soldered it to the barrel. Hunted with it that first year, I was 12, then traded it and $30 for a .30-40 Kragg.Maybe should be a different thread...but how about the gun you actually purchased...in a store?..
(cough)..for 22 year old me it was an Interarms Star 9mm
Traded it for a 3.23 posi complete rear axel assembly for my Firebird..good trade
Funny, I have a gp100 and a Glock 17....I first shot an H&R 999 Sportsman revolver my dad had got in some trade. It seemed pretty cool at the time. Kinda like this, tho I recall a vent rib.

I considered buying one for nostalgia, but they don't look worth the effort. My dad had some nice shotguns and a good rifle, but never owned a pistol that was worth a tin nickel, until I gave him a GP100 and later a Glock 17.
Ah, a new topic!Maybe should be a different thread...but how about the gun you actually purchased...in a store? . . . .
