Well, it was intended to be lighthearted joshing. Did I miss the mark?

Yep, if I used my phone for posts they wuuld de meffed up dor sere. Even on my laptop, my finners do the talking, seemingly disconnected from my brain. I worry about looking the fool, so I constantly proofread, both before and after "Post Reply". As such, the edit, backspace, and delete buttons are my best friends!!! :)

No I got the humor, it just reminded me of how shocked I have been several times when I would have someone quote me, and I would see some glaring typos. A couple times it looked like some kid or illiterate did it. I would think damn, need to pay attention better and laugh it off. It has happened a few times at work too. I will often play here while I am supposed to be working. Some times my multitasking skills are lacking when I see what I put up here. :)

Yah, it's hard to multitask while switching screens when the bozz comes into the room. Then there's that certain look that one gets and the bozz is not fooled. :p:D

I would like to see a :

Elective , low cost , non political firearms safety course offered in schools or say by the Police Department , like the Fire Department has a first aid / CPR class....Or maybe a local gun club....
This course would be :
Non political...
Covering safe firearm handling...
Just how a firearm functions...
Basic Ballistics...
Basic firearms ID...

I would like to stress the non political and elective parts of the suggestion....

'non political'? 'elective'?

'splain, please.

LOL, or when Stomper puts up one of his famous lines and I start laughing. There is a huge window so the other people all start looking in at me wondering what the hell is so funny while I'm supposed to be working.

Never under estimate the power of stupid, you'll be disappointed every time otherwise.

The RO was obviously not on his game or else he would have laid back, allowed nature to take her course and promptly retrieved the mop.

When we have the rights we have, some dumbazzes are going to do stupid things. These two are damn lucky that RSO was Johnny-on-the-spot with this situation. Damn impressive, really. I see people climb on RSO's for being stern, loud, even in your face at times, but I can say the events I've witnessed over the years have justified such responses. Guns aren't something to screw around with, and anyone that would pull a stunt like that deserves to be grabbed by the scruff of the neck and escorted out.

Working at the DRRC hunter sight-in event this past weekend, I can't count the number of times people lowered their rifles toward other people - even after being told to keep the muzzle either pointing up or down range. Some folks just don't get it. Makes us look bad in one sense, but makes us look good when we condemn stupid actions like what these two did.

Just putting this out there...
If someone is putting on a firearms safety course...and needs a muzzleloader or three for the class...let me know...I'd like to help , if I could.

All that said...
I am not NRA or any other certified as a safety instructor...
I have however taught many folks how to shoot and take care of a muzzleloader .

In 2015 there was proposed legislation to require new gun owners to have a safety class.
It was to piggy back on SB941. After I had some deep conversations with some politicians it was removed.
But issues like these really give the Antis more to use, when we have fools like these two.
I am also not convinced it wont return in later years.

I wish this wasn't real and that everyone should have more common sense than this (a fleeting trait these days). While I would want to show these people the door, these would be some of the best people to spend extra time with and educate them. Maybe, after some serious training, they can see the depth of their errors.

My kids are 7 and 8 and just starting to get to the BB gun stage. They've had nerf guns for about a year now and I can't even begin to count the number of times we've talked about gun safety. They have the basic rules of gun safety down and I'll likely continue to cover it for the next 10+ years to make sure they don't forget. While I support general firearms education in school, you have to remember that school only works with a small subset of the fundamentals. A complete education is a never ending process and relies heavily on the child's family. Firearms safety should be a component of that extended education along with knife safety, basic first aid, basic auto repair, basic woodworking, critical thinking, etc. The end goal of my parenting is to raise kids who are self reliant and able to interact with and survive the real world. Relying on school (public or private) to be the sole provider of that information is not going to make a complete individual. With that said, firearms education in school would definitely help those cases where the family is not interested in expanding their child's knowledge due to ignorance, stupidity, or bias.

At least the RSO was on-point!

A guy up the street from me and a friend of his were at the range in the photo below. There are two distinct shelters which correspond to two distinct sets of target stands, but it is one range with no berm between the two zones. No one else was there and they went forward to check their targets. While downrange, they saw a guy show up at the other shelter and begin setting up. Before they could start heading back the guy loaded up and started shooting! They began yelling and waving their arms in the air and the guy just kept on firing. When they got back to the firing line they confronted the guy and asked him what the hell he was thinking and he replied that they were on one side and he was shooting on the other... Note the footbridge between the two zones!
