Poll: What caliber would you like to see become mainstream in the AR-15?

6,8SPC, as there are parts available to convert, you don't need special mags... and that $1+ per round price needs to come down!

6.8 Bigfoot or 6.8x42mm. 200 fps faster than 6.8 SPC. Short enough case and fast enough to shoot almost all of the 130s around 2700 fps. Runs in 6.5 Grendel mags and bolts.

Start with long 7.62x39 (blanks w boxer primer) brass, cut it to length and fireform in chamber. Resize in dies and load.

Another option is to make it the same length as the 6.8SPC so current SPC barrels can be converted. Shorter 130s will still fit. Rechamber the SPC barrel, swap to the Grendel bolt and it's done.

In all seriousness, either 6.5 or 6.8. If either where more common I would buy one.

I vote for the basic .243. Ammo is pretty plentiful and cheap enough as well as being a legal big game round here in Wa.

That's right. As long as we are fitting too long cartridges into the AR-15 using a big hammer why not go real big? I've changed my vote to 50BMG.

re read the OP. this is for an AR15 not an AR10. So the 243, x51, x54, 22-250, ect are not available.

no calibrer it is a pos platform and it is a disgrace that we have even used this platform in the first place the rugar mini 14 or mini 30 should have been chosen for military service at the start !!

I had a an AR45 in 45 APC built aka a BAZ45 by Bazooka Brothers MFG. its DI and uses 30 round Grease Gun mags.
