The problem is, unless you're at one of the endpoints you have to be willing to give something up.

If you're toward the right, you're willing to give up some gun rights.

If you're toward the left, the only thing you can give up is how far you want to go.

So every time at the bargaining table the middle ground is "give up a few gun rights".
 
You've obviously put a lot of thought into this. I do find it troublesome that you're asking for law abiding gun owners to give up a little when our Justice System fails to prosecute form 4473 violations. and many other crimes. Why not start there?
 
We have a Constitutional Amendment (the 2nd)...let's try sticking with that. We shouldn't need to add on a number of sub-regulations, like age limits, parental responsibility, etc. Maybe, the 2nd Amendment should have just included "use common sense".

We have to remember that "to keep and bear arms" is a natural right, that is protected by the Constitution. What is being suggested here is a government mandate that can be taken away, at any time.
