In today's Seattle Times:

Washington should enact a trigger-lock law for child safety
Guns in schools show the need for safe gun storage and holding adults responsible when kids can easily access their guns.

Seattle Times Editorial

HAVING a handgun in the house is legal; failing to keep that gun out of the hands of children is quite another thing.

Two recent gun incidents — one tragic, one a tragedy averted — raise credible questions about gun safety. A state trigger-lock law may be the answer.....

Never let a tragedy go to waste, eh? Most of the comments on this editorial were against it, and it's not like they made a very compelling case.

Why don't they just say.... IF YOU OWN A GUN, BY LAW YOU NEED TO OWN A SAFE. It could be worse, they could make the schools have TSA on site.... oh wait that is probably gonna happen anyways.

How about they just say if you are a criminal (like the people in this story) you cant own a gun. Then this would not have happened. Oh yeah, there already is that law and MANY more that were all broken. Do you really believe that one more law would be followed by someone breaking all the others?:nuts::nuts:

One of my favorite responses to that Seattle times article is this:
Look, we all know that the pen is mightier than the sword. We also know that poorly written laws can cause all kinds of unintended consequences, problems, and can even cause death (just like inflammatory words can). I think something needs to be done! Words are the root of so many of today's problems and when misused can cause all kinds of problems for society. They are used in bad journalism and editorials, you find them in bad laws. Words have even been known to hurt feeling and can have a negative impact on self-esteem! Think of how unregulated and unrestricted words and groupings of words (military/assault style sentences and paragraphs) have harmed our children!

Today, keyboards produce the most words of any source by far; having surpassed manual utensil production a few decades ago. With keyboards producing some many words, it is unconscionable that we don't have any keyboard locks or regulation around the use of keyboards. Keyboards can be found all over the world both in the home, at work, in public, and even in peoples purses and pockets everywhere.

What the Seattle Times should be proposing here is a regulation mandating keyboard locks. This would prevent irresponsible editorials, journalism, and laws potentially saving countless lives, hardships, hurt feelings, and unintended consequences. Just like the 2nd amendment, the 1st amendment comes with responsibilities that require regulation for safe use. These keyboard lock regulations would only target irresponsible word usage. Responsible citizens would only suffer a short a small inconvenience. When are the free people of America going to wake up the to the huge risk that unlocked keyboards pose!?

That was a GREAT response. :s0155:

Maybe it would eliminate some moronic newspaper editorials. The papers in the NW specialize in them.

Unfortunately, if you believe that a law against keyboard usage would curtail the unlawful usage of it by the newspaper editorial staffs, you are sadly mistaken. It would only serve to keep those of us law abiding folk from responding to their inane drivel while letting the criminal element continue their rampage against society. (ROFLMAO)

Well as soon as the Nascar races are over in Las Vagas,I'm sure the mother and boy friend? will go get a safe for the illegal guns they own. (not really sure that they can't own guns)
As I am sure they will turn themselves in to authorities per the arrest warrants

They want to look educated and caring by trying to enact these laws. They don't realize that these laws STILL won't make the people, that have no problem doing you harm, adhere to these type laws.
They will still have the guns accessible to their kids. They will still own them ,even though the court said they can't

How can they not see that more gun laws do nothing to the criminals?
They only create more victims

Do it for the children

Personally, I think they should mandate locks (and lose the keys) for fallopian tubes and sperm ducts of people with IQ's below 100, and those who think socialism/communism, and gun control will make everything peachy-keen in the world...

I just don't understand why... in almost every case, dealing with anything. Everyone wants to make a new law. why?! They say forget about the punishments, just make another law. Instead of passing new laws, how about make the punishments worse for those who break the already existing laws!

An update on this case:
<broken link removed>

And I posted a comment in reply to some nimwad who thinks that a gun registry is needed. If you get the opportunity, give me some thumbs up to counter what is sure to be some thumbs down which the anti's will be choosing.

Because (like the proponents) making a new law is simple and it "feels good".. typical leftist thinking

She should face murder 1 charges and hanging if the child dies and she is convicted

Hahahaha
Right,hang a woman? Barbarian!!

No,she'll live in Gig Harbor(purdy) for a few years and be sent to gov programs for a few more.
Nobody but the poor kid will pay much for this. And he already has by being born into this mess called a family.

How about just enforcing the laws already on the books? Never mind...that would be proactive......

There is only about 2500 gun laws on the books according to some counts. Then there are the regulations. How many? Not even the government knows. Which one should be enforced? Careful you may have violated at least one.
