< Why they don't have school shootings in Israel.
Notice the long gun slung over the teachers shoulder?

A group urging parents to make sure their kids don't go into homes with unsecured firearms will hold an 11 a.m. rally Tuesday in Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver.

The event, sponsored by the ASK campaign of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, sparked guns-rights activists to hold their own "open carry" rally at the park at the same time.

Heidi Yewman, a national board member of the Brady campaign who lives in Vancouver and organized Tuesday's rally, said she knows the two groups disagree about gun regulations.

"This isn't about the Second Amendment," she said. "We're all on the same side of this."

Organizers of the open carry rally could not be immediately reached for comment. In a Facebook post announcing the rally, organizers said:

Let's show them with our numbers that we will not stand still as they try to endanger us by making us victims. This will be a peaceful counter protest where we intend to show our numbers but will refrain from confrontations with their group.
