At least this one has an apparent cause. There's been many EV fires that seemingly happened for no reason. One recently melted down a portion of a parking garage.

One of the reasons NMC batteries in large arrays need to go away is this thermal runaway. Once they get hot and erupt into fire, there's basically no way to put it out, you have to let it run it's course.

LiFeP04 chemistry is much safer, although not quite as energy dense, so EV manufacturers are reluctant to switch.
