Exactly. And simply establishing a convoy system through that area would work as well. As it stands now the naval vessels there are scattered out all over on different patrol routes. Establish a scheduled convoy system where each group of vessels has an escort. A surface ship with a armed helo attached would stop any attack.

There tactics are pretty interesting, I remember sometime in the early 90s, some lunatics took over a school somewhere in russia and they didn't speak russian, so over a loud speaker the officers responding yelled out "get down" then sprayed the whole building with fire, in order to kill the bad guys, I just remembered that their reasoning, was the childern were short and the bad guys were taller!

That was the Chechnya incident.

Russians lost 20 million civilians in each of the big wars. A few here, a few there are a rounding error to a nation that was seen as a rich resource target. Especially when making a point that they won't take anything lying down.
