Teachers in Tennessee may soon be able to carry handguns on campus. Protests erupted after the state's House and Senate passed the bill yesterday, prompting state troopers to clear the gallery. The bill comes just over a year after a gunman killed six people at a Nashville school. Many, including students, have opposed the bill, saying that the solution to school shootings isn't to introduce more guns to schools. Under the legislation, staff who wish to carry a concealed firearm on school grounds must get a handgun carry permit, undergo a background check, complete 40 hours of additional training and pass a psychological evaluation. Ill never understand why so many people are against individuals having the ability to protect and defend themselves.

Because their minds are CLOSED. They refuse to step back and look at reality, instead, they gobble up the gorp spewed by democrap controlled media.

This stuff is GREAT! I do have to hope that when it starts to happen some teacher does not allow their gun to fall into the wrong hands as the media would have all kinds of fun with that. Do VERY much look forward to the time some scum comes to a school to kill and is dropped by one of the teachers instead. Would be fun to watch the media try to figure out how to either pretend it did not happen, or find some way to say it was horrible.

The appropriate people with firearms in schools are a deterrent . When was the last time there was a mass shooting in UTAH ? To use the verbage of the looney left , if it saves only 1 child it is worth it . Well there will be more than 1 life saved but that isn't their focus .... safety and security has never been their narrative . Liberals have always been a threat to the safety and security of this nation and it's people .... traitors . :(

Get the gallows ready, it's high time to hang 'em all, every last liberty and freedom hating one of 'em.

I'll never understand why so many people are against individuals having the ability to protect and defend themselves.
Because in their minds, it's the guns themselves that are the problem, rather than depraved human beings.

Personally I think that the common knowledge that someone in that school might be carrying would be a good deterrent, even if only one in a thousand teachers actually does. Mass shooters are not soldiers bravely going into combat; they're hopeless cowards who just want to spread death and chaos on their way out.

Of course.

Schools are chosen in part (or at least by some) because they are soft targets, full of defenseless children, in "no gun" zones, mostly with no armed security. Hence, no return fire and a chance for escape unharmed.

Even suicidal psychotic students who are taking revenge on bullies/etc., will take into account the number of people they can shoot, and/or the ability to access their targets, before they are stopped.

Protect schools with metal detectors and interlock vestibules. It's not terribly expensive and can be retrofitted to just about any school.

If you trip the metal detector and you don't have a carry permit, just leave them locked in the vestibule until the police arrive. Of course that also requires all other entrances to be locked and otherwise secured, which is a whole issue on its own.

I'm all for arming teachers that are willing to go through the training necessary to be proficient and competent with a firearm. The caveat is on person carry only. That way they are always in control of the firearm.
