Boy did this turn ( besides Andy and Libertas7, LOL) since when did stealing become a part of preps, or for that matter an accepted means of self furtherance in this world?
If you are not prepped, or worse don't take your own responsibilities for your own survival seriously enough to do something pro active about it, then you are surely lost, and worse, now you are just another member of the sheeple that roll their eyes when ever talk of bad things comes up! I pity some one with this mind set, and state that you want whats mine, be prepared to bleed profusely, I am an excellent shot from WAY, WAY yonder all the way down to bad breath range!!!

There are plenty of things you can do to prep when living in an apt. The only reason any of us prep to stick around is to protect our home from looting, our homes are a huge investment.
You have no such attachment to an apt. Your goal as an apt dweller is to prep only enough to make it to the next fema evacutation, and wherever they take you just keep on going to another state to live as normal.

Looting will just get you killed, ironic since you would have just survived the worst earthquake in recorded history...
I don't live in an apartment. I just rent. There are plenty of things I'd love to do that the home owner won't let me.

If shtf, I wouldn't care what he thought. I do what I'd have to do, and I think he'd be okay with that.

I remember some vids where the people were talking about how all they needed was guns, because they could then just take what they wanted from others. both sad and scary. :(

I must be ahead of my time with the survival bike. I built this one years ago when I was board. I put a larger rear sprocket because I live in a hilly area. Its 50cc and gets probably 90mpg or more. Used it on the John Day to run around on, and run my dog with it. He like to chase me. Some shocks would be nice but this one was cheap to piece together. Now a basket a rear rack and rifle scabbard.:)

That's pretty cool. What are the laws for driving these on the road?

Well, I appreciate the honesty if not the action in regards to looting. Prepping/hoarding/tactical planning is only a short term solution, no matter how much you stock or plan. It is very unlikely prep plans will last beyond a few weeks, and likely could be rendered useless in a matter of minutes, even with a year supply of everything. The thing is, you don't know when, where, or what type event will happen. You also don't know where you or anyone else will be when it happens. Heck, big enough event, you might not even survive initially. Best to ensure you can cover immediate needs, and improvise the rest as the event unfolds. If you lock your mind down with detailed plans, you eliminate the fluidity required the cope. This isn't directed at anyone in particular, just another perspective. Also, long term survival beyond like a month or 2 will be vastly improved by forming small communities. No one knows everything, and you can't do 2 things at once like guard your stash, sleep, and forage. The diversity of experience and knowledge of the community will benefit all. If you find yourself in the OPS scenario, introduce yourself to the people around you. Stay calm, don't judge. Offer to help if needed. If you are comfortable taking charge, do so in a calm manner, and people will overcome panic and act. Can't tell how effective that is in a chaotic situation like combat unless you've been there. By giving your name, you areally more likely to be seen as a person and not an opportunity. By remaining isolated and alone, your chance to survive greatly diminish quickly over time.

Then your better off than an apt. You dont need to modify the house to prep you just need room to store your preps.

And then really, why would you want to stay? You have no investment in the house. Get on the first FEMA evac you can and get outta here. If the Cascadia quake happens as bad as the say it will, your not gonna wanna be here

Because not everything in live is about what FEMA does. Truth is, they'll likely never be involved in my life.

I think you are overstating "how bad they say it will be". Posts from this thread say it won't be a huge deal in the PDX area which is where I am. Why leave? I can gather water, grow veggies, and hunt & butcher animals. I have no reason to leave.

Look I'm all for preparing for things, but one thing that I don't think a lot of people in this thread understand (including a bunch of people I respect after reading their posts for a while) is that it is a much more likely scenario that I'll (or many of you) will retire in life than this 9.0+ happens that "crushes" Portland. How much are you putting toward your retirement versus preparing for this event? Prep'ing isn't about how much money you spend or how much you acquire. It is about having a plan. LOL @ being concerned about a corporation's profits being cut into. THAT'S NOT A CONCERN IN A SHTF SCENARIO. WTF?
