One of the funniest things I took away from the book, is the fact this man lived off the land, and made money hunting, and his favorite cartridge was the .220 swift. If you told someone today you were going to go hunt Alaska with a .220 you'd be ridiculed to no end.
I guess critters are bigger and badder these days...
 
In that story about the grizz, he says he only killed it after the 11th shot.... I wonder what rifle he was using that held that many cartridges or if he somehow had time to reload in the middle of a continuous grizzly charge.
