What about phishing?
 
As an engineer, I believe magnet fishing is fishing for magnets.
Whereas magnetic fishing might attract underwater metal objects.

It's commonplace to discuss activities using a tool-activity description to better denote how the activity is performed.

Fly fishing, as @solv3nt notes, is not fishing for flies.
Bow hunting is not hunting for bows.
Trad climbing is not climbing trads.
 
I used to strip the outer paper off of the thin metal bread bag ties, then wrap it in a figure 8 around the AC plug in my sister's FM radio, leaving it unplugged.

It was fun to see her jump with electric excitement. She never did figure it out.
