Once you have an import permit approved by the ATF (empty brass) do you send a copy of the permit to the exporter? Do I need to inform USPS they are on the way?
Thanks in advance.

Yes. You need an approved form 6 and you are not going to get one as a non licensee. You fill out the permit , get it approved, send it to the seller who includes it int he package and when it goes through customs they will probably send it to you if its a small order. Otherwise its sent to your customs broker.

I have the approved Form 6, I guess since it's empty brass (200 x .375 Win) it sailed through the ATF in a matter of days, impressive I thought.
Your comment about a customs broker, what is that? I know for a fact I don't have one.

They are really haphazard about approving those. One day they'll tall you you need to be a licensee the next they just approve anything. Hard agency to love. If they approved you with no broker just go for it. 90% of the time they never ask for the part B anyway.

Maybe they took pity on me for importing .375 Win brass? In my defense when I started the process I couldn't get brass anywhere here.
I know now that as long as you have a bit of patience Starline will eventually do a run of hard to get calibers such as .348 Win.

I've run out of patience with star line. How much are you importing?

Update:
I emailed the ATF regarding the import process after items (200 empty brass) get to the US, specifically filling out a Form 6A.

".....I have applied for an import permit and I wanted to know if I need to complete Section I of Form 6A before the items get here and email it to the ATF or do I complete Section I and Section III after I get the items and then email the completed Form 6A and the approved Form 6?"

From the ATF:
You must wait until the shipment arrives and verify and complete the 6a within 15 days of receipt. Thank you.

So, if you want to import, fill out Form 6, in triplicate, and mail to the ATF. Get it approved and send a copy to the exporter named on the Form 6.

Once you get the items in country fill out a Form 6A and mail it back to the ATF within 15 days. I think you can also email it back. I'll do both, a hard copy to follow up the email.

Not too involved but then again it was only brass and a small quantity. One other thing, where the Form 6 was noted as did I want a copy of the approved form returned to me I checked that box as the exporter (Aus) required it.

I was expecting a hard copy however I got the approved Form 6 via email. Maybe the hard copy is still on the way but maybe not, something to consider.
